OUR HISTORY |
|
Brian and Judy Walsh have always been interested in good quality wine. Moving to the Hunter Valley in the early 1970's gave an opportunity to purchase a parcel of prime grape land in the heart of the Pokolbin Wine District, Australia's oldest wine producing area. A small block
of Chardonnay vines was planted in the early 1980's. Fruit produced
from these vines was quickly found to produce a superb full bodied wine
and become highly sought from local wine makers. Further plantings
have been made including Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and more are planned
for the future. The easterly aspect, moderate rainfall and protection
from the prevailing westerly winds assures seasonal growth earlier than
usual with the added benefit of extended ripening in the warm dry summers.
The soil is a marine and volcanic base rich in vine nutrients resulting
in outstanding fruit quality with a good natural balance of sugar, fruit
flavour and acid. Wherever possible, we implement an organic growing
philosophy with minimal chemical usage.
Output from the vineyard is strictly limited to ensure full balanced ripeness with high sugar concentrations. The resulting wine from this vineyard has a generous fruity bouquet that gives way to luscious complex and satisfying flavours with correct cellaring. On Australia Day 1996 a cellar door outlet was opened, and the majority of our wine is sold from this facility. However, recently there have been some changes. Detailing the construction of Carindale Cottage, our luxury self-contained accommodation, the start of our wine club. Our objective is to keep our stock limited and of premium quality. |
